Your 35mm Slides, Digitized the Right Way
I scan 35mm slides and film strips to high-resolution files, without shipping your originals away or running them through a department store scanner.

Your slides are not getting any better sitting in that carousel
Color fades without warning
Kodachrome lasts well, but Ektachrome and most consumer slide film shifts color within decades. The warmer the storage, the faster the drift.
Projectors fail and carousels jam
Slide projectors are aging equipment. A failed projector is often what finally pushes families to digitize. If yours is still working, that is a reason to act now.
These are the only originals
Slides were rarely duplicated. The carousel you have is almost certainly the only copy of every image on it.
Your Slides Never Leave Colwood
I have scanned thousands of slide collections over 35 years, and I know how differently Kodachrome and Ektachrome respond to scanning. Kodachrome holds its color exceptionally well. Ektachrome and most consumer slide film from the 1970s and 80s is another story, and the approach changes accordingly. Carousels arrive in all states. Some are pristine and ordered. Others are jammed, mislabeled, or have been sitting in a garage for two decades. I handle all of it without rushing the process. Slides are removed, scanned, and reloaded in the original sequence so nothing gets rearranged. Your originals never leave Colwood. They are not sent to a scanning facility. From drop-off to pickup, they stay in my care.

What I Accept
Mounted 35mm Slides
Mounted slides are the most common format I see. I scan each slide individually at high resolution with multiple exposure passes for accurate color and detail in the shadows and highlights.
Slide Carousels
I can work from a full carousel tray. I will remove, scan, and reload the slides in the same order they were in, preserving the sequence you arranged.
Film Strips and Negatives
Some families have both slides and strips from the same era. I handle both formats and can combine them into one organized delivery.
How I Scan Your Slides
Each slide is cleaned and inspected before scanning. I use a dedicated film scanner with multiple exposure passes for maximum dynamic range. Colour is corrected and dust removed digitally. The result captures everything the original film holds.
Asked Often
Do I need to remove the slides from the carousel?
No. Bring the carousel as it is. I remove the slides, scan them in sequence, and reload them in order.
What resolution do you scan at?
I scan at high resolution with multiple exposure passes, which captures detail in both highlights and shadows. The resulting files are suitable for large-format printing.
Can you scan slides that are faded or color-shifted?
Yes, with caveats. I can often improve faded or shifted slides in processing, but some color loss is permanent. I will note the condition of each batch in your estimate.
How many slides fit in a sitting?
Turnaround depends on the quantity. A carousel of 80 slides is typically part of a 1 to 2 week project. Larger collections take longer.
What format will my files be in?
High-resolution TIFF or JPEG files, your choice. Delivered on USB or via private download link.
Are slides at risk of fading over time?
Yes. Digitizing helps preserve the images.
Do I need to remove slides from carousels?
No. You can bring them exactly as they are.
Will slides be returned to their original containers?
Yes, unless you request otherwise.
What My Clients Say
“I found a tape of my grandmother telling family stories from the 80s. I was terrified to play it. Dave handled it so carefully and the digital audio file he sent me is a treasure my whole family now has. The fact that I could just drop it off in Colwood was a huge relief.”
